ISO 37001 Transitioning Arrangements

The International Accreditation Forum (IAF) is in the process to establish the requirements for transitioning from ISO 37001:2016 to ISO 37001:2025, the revised standard for Anti-Bribery Management Systems.

The revised ISO 37001:2025 introduces several key changes, including the addition of new subclauses on climate change and the importance of compliance culture, explicit treatment of conflicts of interest, clarification of the anti-bribery function, harmonization of wording with other ISO management system standards, and adoption of the latest harmonized ISO structure.

Considering that ISO 37001:2025 was published in February 2025 the proposed transition timeline looks very tight:
- Step1: By 30 November 2025, Accreditation Bodies must be ready to assess to the new version and announce their transition process, while Conformity Assessment Bodies must submit a self-declaration of readiness.
- Step 2: By 28 February 2026, Accreditation Bodies must complete the transition of CABs.
- Step 3: Beginning no later than 31 August 2026, initial certifications and recertifications must be conducted only against ISO 37001:2025.
- Step 4: All transitions of certified clients must be completed by 28 February 2027, after which all certifications to ISO 37001:2016 will be invalid.

Conformity Assessment Bodies will be required to establish their own transition arrangements and submit a formal self-declaration to their ABs by November 2025, identifying and addressing the changes, updating internal processes such as sales, auditing, competence management, IT tools and communications, and ensuring relevant personnel are trained and competent.
CABs should also conduct transition audits either in conjunction with surveillance or recertification audits, or as separate audits, with remote audits permitted if objectives are met.
CABs that will decide not to transition would be expected to inform their ABs and clients, and their accreditations will be withdrawn at the end of the transition.

Accredited certifications to the old standard will no longer be valid after 28 February 2027.
